Matthew Lillard ha paragonato l’effusione d’amore che ha ricevuto dopo essere stato criticato da Quentin Tarantino a un elogio funebre.
La star di Scooby-Doo ha rivelato che dopo che il regista di Pulp Fiction ha criticato le sue capacità di recitazione, i fan si sono subito schierati dietro di lui.
Parlando con People, Lillard ha condiviso che l’ondata di sostegno sembrava un elogio.
“It felt like I had died and was in heaven watching everyone send out their RIP tweets,” ha detto. “I mean, it was really being a part of your own wake, sort of sitting there living through all the nice things people say after you die.”
“So it was really, really lovely,” ha continuato il 56enne. “It was something that happened that was who cares, really? But I spoke out. I mean, I got caught on a hot mic talking about it, and then it sort of went viral from there.”
A dicembre Tarantino dichiarò di no “care for” Lillard, così come gli altri attori Owen Wilson e Paul Dano.
Poco dopo, Lillard ha risposto ai commenti del regista durante un’apparizione al GalaxyCon a Columbus, Ohio.
“Yeah, whatever. Who gives a s**t,” disse alla folla in quel momento. “Listen, the point is that it hurts your feelings. It f**king sucks. And you wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise.”
Ha aggiunto, “You wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood.”
Lillard, Wilson e Dano hanno ricevuto il sostegno di altri attori in seguito alle critiche, tra cui George Clooney, che ha detto che sarebbe stato “honoured to work with” uno qualsiasi dei tre attori.
Riflettendo sui commenti di Tarantino, Lillard ha ammesso la situazione “sucked” perché lo farebbe “love” lavorare con il regista.
“I think he’s a lovely filmmaker, and to just sort of get punched in the mouth just was kind of a bummer,” ha affermato.
