Matthew Lillard apprezza il sostegno ricevuto in seguito alle recenti critiche di Quentin Tarantino.
L’attore 56enne è stato recentemente criticato da Tarantino, 62 anni, ma Matthew è stato rincuorato dalla successiva ondata di sostegno nei suoi confronti.
La star del cinema ha detto a People: “Mi sentivo come se fossi morta e fossi in paradiso guardando tutti inviare i loro tweet RIP.
“Voglio dire, è stato davvero parte della tua scia, una specie di stare seduto lì a vivere tutte le cose belle che la gente dice dopo la tua morte.
“So it was really, really lovely. It was something that happened that was who cares, really? But I spoke out. I mean, I got caught on a hot mic talking about it, and then it sort of went viral from there.”
Matthew ha effettivamente ricevuto il sostegno di alcuni dei più grandi nomi del mondo del cinema.
Ha detto: “Everyone, from the people at the mall this weekend with my kids to George Clooney and James Gunn and Mike Flanagan … I mean, people have sort of been really generous with telling me how much they loved me and liked my work.”
Matthew aveva già affrontato i commenti di Tarantino al GalaxyCon di Columbus, Ohio, alla fine del 2025.
L’attore all’epoca disse: “Sì, qualunque cosa. Chi se ne frega.
“Listen, the point is that it hurts your feelings. It f****** sucks. And you wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood.”
Tarantino ha criticato Matthew durante un’apparizione al podcast di Bret Easton Ellis nel 2025, quando era critico anche nei confronti di Paul Dano e Owen Wilson.
Il leggendario regista ha fatto queste osservazioni mentre discuteva della performance di Dano in There Will Be Blood, il film drammatico del 2007.
Tarantino ha condiviso la sua lista dei migliori film del 21° secolo e ha classificato There Will Be Blood al quinto posto, osservando che è “would stand a better chance to be in number one or number two if it didn’t have a big giant flaw in it”.
Ha aggiunto: “And the flaw is Paul Dano. Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander, and it’s also so drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander … He is weak sauce, man. He’s a weak sister.”
Successivamente Tarantino ha rivolto alcune critiche a Owen Wilson e Matthew.
L’acclamato regista ha detto: “I’m not saying he’s giving a terrible performance. I’m saying he’s giving a non-entity [performance]. I don’t care for him. I don’t care for Owen Wilson, I don’t care for Matthew Lillard.”
