Billy Crudup ha ricordato come si sentiva “humiliated” dopo che Tom Cruise gli ha offerto degli spunti sul set del loro film del 2006, Mission: Impossible III.
Durante una recente intervista per il podcast Armchair Expert con Dax Shepard, l’attore ha raccontato come gli sceneggiatori e regista, JJ Abrams, non abbiano finito di lavorare su una chiave “page-long” monologo per il film d’azione fino alla mattina delle riprese.
Billy ha notato che di solito può memorizzare le battute se lo ha “time” con la sceneggiatura, ma a causa della scadenza, era molto ansioso sul set.
“The morning we’re shooting it, in the trailer, I get the pages. Cut to Tom tied up (for the scene), me off camera, reading the text. Turn around to me, total panic attack, melting under pressure, can’t remember anything. This is what Tom Cruise does. (He says), ‘Billy, you ever worked with cue cards?’ And was like, ‘Uh, no, Tom, I have not.’ (He announced), ‘We’re working with cue cards today.'”
Billy si ricordò di come Tom avesse chiesto a un assistente di produzione di scrivere l’intero monologo su delle carte di spunto.
“This motherf**ker has the cue card right here (by his face) so he can still (act). I’m doing everything I can to not play the scene like (I’m reading the script for the first time),” ha continuato il 57enne.
Nonostante la stretta inversione di tendenza, Billy ha ammesso che il suo monologo sembrava a posto sullo schermo.
“J.J. and Tom are so good that they made it work in the film. Humiliating, I told them I needed it. I could have done so much better, guys. Tom saved me on that,” ha aggiunto.
Altrove nella chat, Billy ha raccontato quanto Tom sia stato di supporto sul set dopo la morte di suo padre Thomas Crudup nel 2005.
“You haven’t been consoled until you’ve been consoled by Tom Cruise,” ha dichiarato la star del Morning Show.
