Denzel Washington aveva correttamente previsto che un giorno Letitia Wright avrebbe finito per dirigere il film.
L’attore di Training Day ha dichiarato che Wright sarebbe diventata una regista dopo averla vista recitare in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever del 2022.
Durante un’apparizione sul podcast How to Fail, l’attrice britannica ha ricordato una conversazione avuta con Washington dopo che lui era venuto sul set e l’aveva vista esibirsi in una scena.
“It was beautiful to see him in the flesh and just sit with him, make jokes and he was just cool,” si ricordò. “He also called me out. He was like, ‘You’re gonna be a director.’ I was like, ‘What the heck, you just got here! You don’t know anything about me.’ I did not have a desire to direct (at the time). He’s like, ‘I can see you directing one day.’ And I was like, ‘Sir, what do you mean?’ and he was like, ‘Yeah, you look like you’re going to direct.'”
Wright ha aggiunto che il suo regista di Black Panther, Ryan Coogler, ha confermato la previsione di Washington.
“And then Ryan said after, ‘Tish, you look like you’re going to direct, like your brain, you’re always thinking about different things.’ And that became true,” ha detto.
Wright ha recentemente fatto il suo debutto alla regia con il cortometraggio di 25 minuti Highway to the Moon, un dramma fantasy di formazione che ha viaggiato nel circuito dei festival cinematografici durante tutto quest’anno. Recentemente lo ha presentato al London Film Festival in ottobre.
La star potrebbe finire per lavorare con Washington in futuro poiché Coogler ha scritto una parte per lui nel terzo film di Black Panther. Si prevede che Wright ritorni nei panni di Shuri dopo un’apparizione in Avengers: Doomsday.
