Danny Devito “loved” Giocare al pinguino in “Batman Returns”.
L’attore di 80 anni ha interpretato il personaggio iconico nel film di supereroi del 1992 e DeVito ha ammesso l’opportunità di interpretare il pinguino nel film diretto da Tim Burton.
La star di Hollywood – che è apparsa nel film insieme a artisti del calibro di Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer e Christopher Walken – ha detto a Variety: “I loved it because it gave you a freedom that burst out.”
DeVito è particolarmente amato lavorando con il regista del film.
Disse: “Puoi andare fuori dai binari con qualcosa.
“The operatic element of Tim Burton’s ‘Batman Returns’ was my favourite thing about it – the music and sets and the whole thing. The Shakespeare of it – ‘All the world’s a stage.’ [The Penguin’s] realm and his penguins and his minions and his passion. I loved that.”
DeVito ha anche goduto dell’esperienza di lavorare con Michelle Pfeiffer, che ha interpretato Catwoman nel film di supereroi.
Ha condiviso: “I’m not comparing anything, but I’m just saying, she was a goddess. If I knew she was going to be in a scene that day … I got all flushed. Put extra makeup on – ‘Give me another pound of makeup.’ It was very difficult.”
DeVito in realtà ha trascorso ore su una sedia da truccatore ogni giorno prima delle riprese.
L’attore veterano ha detto: “We started with a five- or six-hour make-up job, then they whittled it down. Every morning, I was in the chair for three and a half hours.”
Nonostante ciò, DeVito alla fine ha sviluppato un rituale rigoroso durante le riprese che lo ha aiutato a far fronte ai lunghi giorni lavorativi.
Disse: “Sono stato lì ogni giorno per 66 giorni.
“In make-up, cooking pasta in the afternoon, having meals, making meatballs. I’m in the middle of a scene in the Penguin’s lair, and this wonderful guy who worked with me, I [call] him over. He goes through all these catwalks; he goes, ‘What is it, Dan?’ And I said, ‘Stir the sauce.’ He had to go back to the trailer to stir the tomato sauce.”
Inoltre, DeVito ha effettivamente trascorso del tempo con alcuni pinguini in preparazione per interpretare il personaggio iconico.
La star del film ha ricordato: “I went down to the zoo in San Diego, and they let me in the back to go hang out with the king penguins.”
La performance di Devito come Penguin rimane una delle più memorabili della sua carriera. E l’attore ha precedentemente rivelato che sarebbe tornato felicemente al franchise di Batman se Tim Burton emette un altro film.
Disse a Screenrant: “Se Tim Burton lo stesse dirigendo, sarei lì in un secondo. Oswald Cobblepot è il mio preferito. Mi sono divertito. È operistico.
“I like every once in a while going big, and so I’d do that in a second. We had a ball doing that.”
