Kathy Bates ha ammesso di non aver mai sentito “comfy” a Hollywood.
La vincitrice dell’Oscar si è aperta sull’ossessione dell’immagine dell’industria cinematografica, rilevando quanto per gran parte della sua carriera di 55 anni, era stata scelta in ruoli di supporto.
“(I was) looked at as the friend, the neighbour next door, the crazy one – the action away from the centre of the frame,” Kathy, 76 anni, ha detto a Vanity Fair in un’intervista pubblicata questa settimana. “Which always had a wilting, de-nourished white girl in the middle of it, honestly.”
In effetti Kathy ha spiegato, anche se il suo ruolo da protagonista nella serie detective TV di successo del 2024 Matlock aveva rinnovato la sua carriera, non si sentiva ancora come un membro a pieno titolo dell’élite di Hollywood.
“I don’t feel comfy,” Kathy ha condiviso. “I never felt that I belonged, but that’s okay.”
Ha aggiunto che ci sono stati vantaggi nel non aver basato la sua carriera sugli sguardi.
“So now? It’s sweet revenge,” Kathy ha scherzato. “Oh, Miss Beauty Queen, you had a career up until your 40s and you can’t work? Too bad!”
La star di Misery ha aggiunto di aver trovato più facile essere aperti con le sue opinioni mentre era cresciuta.
“I’ll think, Oh, you shouldn’t say this; oh, you shouldn’t say that,” Ha riflettuto. “But then I say, ‘F**k it – I’m 76. Can’t I just say it?'”
