Angelina Jolie ha reso un omaggio emotivo alla sua defunta madre mentre ha accettato un premio ambito mercoledì.
L’attrice e regista si è strappato mentre ricordava sua madre, Marcheline Bertrand, al Santa Barbara International Film Festival in California mercoledì.
Mentre accettava il prestigioso Maltin Modern Master Award per i suoi successi nell’industria cinematografica, la star di Maria si è presa un momento per rendere omaggio a sua madre, che è morta nel 2007 dopo una battaglia con il cancro ovarico e mammario.
“I’m very thankful to be a part of this community, many people go through life without a creative outlet,” Il 49enne ha detto al pubblico. “I think of my mother, she had to give up her dreams of a creative life but she embraced that side of mine.”
Ha continuato, “My mother would write letters to my characters – Dear Gia, Dear Lisa Rowe, Dear Lara Croft – and for the last (18) years, I haven’t had those letters.”
Jolie ha poi condiviso che pensa a ciò che sua madre avrebbe scritto al suo personaggio più recente, la cantante opera della vita reale Maria Callas, che ha suonato nella film biopic del 2024 Maria.
“I try to imagine sometimes what she would write, and she would probably have told Maria that she loved her because Maria had many things but she never had a mother’s love,” Disse l’attrice visibilmente emotiva. “I would be absolutely nothing without mine.”
“She passed away many years ago at this time of year, so it’s always this weather that reminds me of her,” La stella Maleficent ha continuato. “And that feeling and that sensibility that makes that actually hard for me is part of what is my work and what connects many artists to their work, and I know I’m not alone in this.”
Marcheline era un’aspirante attrice che faceva un passo indietro dalla sua carriera per occuparsi di Angelina e suo fratello James Haven, che condivide con l’attore Jon Voight.
