Kate Winslet ha ammesso che probabilmente non lo era “emotionally fit” abbastanza per realizzare il suo film Blackbird del 2019 così presto dopo la morte di sua madre.
L’attrice di Titanic ha recitato al fianco di Susan Sarandon, Sam Neill e Mia Wasikowska nel dramma, che segue una famiglia mentre si riunisce durante un fine settimana per dire addio alla matriarca Lily.
La Winslet, che interpretava la figlia di Lily, ha ammesso nel podcast Happy Place di non essere nelle condizioni di girare un film sulla perdita di un genitore un anno dopo la morte di sua madre Sally nel 2017.
“It was only a year after I had lost my mother and I look back on it now and I think, ‘Oh my God, what was I thinking?! I was in no shape, you know, emotionally fit to be making a film to do with loss at all,'” ha detto al conduttore Fearne Cotton. “But it probably helped me to distract myself from emotions that I was probably wasn’t processing efficiently enough in my own life.”
Ha aggiunto, “There are things, as actors, we’re drawn to entirely subconsciously and it’s only in hindsight that it’s crystal clear what we must have been emotionally trying to work through when we made that particular choice.”
L’ultimo film di Winslet, Goodbye June, copre un argomento simile poiché segue una famiglia che si riunisce in ospedale a Natale per salutare la madre June. Il film, diretto e interpretato da Winslet, è stato scritto da suo figlio, Joe Anders, e ispirato alla sua esperienza con la morte di sua nonna Sally.
Condividendo il modo in cui la realizzazione del film l’ha colpita personalmente, la vincitrice dell’Oscar ha detto: “There were days where I was literally reliving what happened when I lost my own mum, even though our film is fictional… I think I did feel very vulnerable because it did bring up all that stuff up.”
Goodbye June, con Helen Mirren, Toni Collette e Andrea Riseborough, è ora in streaming su Netflix.
