Sophie Turner ha ricordato perché non le piaceva lavorare su drammi d’epoca mentre girava il suo prossimo film The Dreadful.
L’attrice britannica si è rifiutata di recitare in qualsiasi dramma medievale o d’epoca dopo che Game of Thrones si è concluso nel 2019 perché sentiva il bisogno di farlo. “step away entirely from that world” e affermarsi al di fuori dello spettacolo.
Tuttavia, ha cambiato idea per l’horror gotico, ambientato nel XV secolo, e presto si è ricordata del motivo per cui non le piaceva indossare abiti d’epoca sul set.
“For a long time after Game of Thrones, I said, ‘No medieval projects, no period pieces.’ And then I shot The Dreadful last year, and I remembered why I didn’t enjoy doing them,” ha detto alla rivista Porter. “You’re outside a lot, you’re in dresses that are too cold, and you get mud everywhere.”
Riguardo alle sue scelte di carriera post-Il Trono di Spade, Turner ha spiegato che aveva bisogno di capire chi fosse senza Sansa Stark, il personaggio che ha iniziato a interpretare quando aveva 13 anni.
“I think I had a bit of an identity crisis and needed to step away entirely from that world for a couple of years. It was like a death, that show finishing,” ha condiviso il 29enne. “We all had to go away and process it a bit. I needed time to figure out who I was, what I wanted, who I was as an actor.”
The Dreadful riunisce la Turner con la sua co-protagonista in Game of Thrones, Kit Harington, anche se questa volta interpretano gli amanti invece dei parenti.
“We have this unspoken dialogue. I can read him and he can read me. It grounded me, having him on set. It brought me back to being a 13-year-old who didn’t know anything about the industry,” ha elogiato la sua co-protagonista.
The Dreadful, che attualmente non ha una data di uscita, è uno dei tanti progetti imminenti di Turner. Questi includono anche la serie di rapine Steal di Prime Video e l’imminente programma televisivo Tomb Raider, in cui interpreterà l’iconico personaggio Lara Croft.
Turner, che attualmente si sta allenando per la serie, lo era “over the moon” avere la possibilità “to do something different” sullo schermo.
