Matt Damon ha parlato apertamente dell’essere “there” per Ben Affleck nel mezzo delle sue lotte personali.
Lunedì, durante un’apparizione all’Howard Stern Show, il conduttore ha parlato del periodo in cui Ben era “drinking too much” e affrontare i divorzi.
Howard continuò chiedendo a Matt: “Could you go to Ben and say, ‘I’m here to help you?'”
In risposta, l’attore di The Bourne Identity ha dichiarato: “Oh, yeah, our relationship isn’t affected by what people are saying… I was there for all of it.”
Riflettendo sul commento, Ben ha ringraziato il suo amico di lunga data per il suo continuo supporto.
“That means a lot to me,” sorrise. “That’s sort of what a real friend is.”
Ben ha avuto due divorzi di alto profilo. L’attore-regista è stato sposato con Jennifer Garner, dalla quale ha tre figli, dal 2005 fino alla separazione definitiva nel 2018.
Ben è stato anche sposato con Jennifer Lopez dal luglio 2022 fino alla conclusione del divorzio nel febbraio 2025.
La star di Argo ha parlato apertamente dei suoi problemi con l’alcolismo in passato ed è sobrio dal 2019.
Matt, 55 anni, e Ben sono diventati famosi dopo aver realizzato il film del 1997 Will Hunting, Will Hunting, per il quale hanno vinto l’Oscar per la migliore sceneggiatura originale.
Di conseguenza, il 53enne ha notato che l’amicizia maschile era uno dei temi del film.
“Especially as a young guy, the really intense love relationships you have with other young men who you’re really loyal to and really close to and who you grew up with, and a lot of times those relationships are lifelong,” rifletté. “I think as young men at least, we were much more… we understood better how important these pure friendships were, and what they meant to us and how they kind of define your identity as early as high school.”
Altrove nella chat, Ben ha attribuito al suo legame con Matt il merito di averlo aiutato a restare “sane” a Hollywood.
“Getting famous and successful kind of together, (we had) somebody to turn to and go ‘Is this f**king nuts, or what?'” ha spiegato l’attore. “Or to say, ‘What are you doing, man?'”
Matt e Ben stanno attualmente promuovendo il loro nuovo film, The Rip.
Il thriller d’azione uscirà su Netflix venerdì.
